What a way to start our 50th anniversary!!! All three senior Black Diamond AFL grades bagged wins last Saturday at Hillsborough where our Womens AFL team, the Lady Hawks defeated Lake Macquarie; Reserves easily accounting for Singleton, and First Grade got back in the winners list by defeating Killarney Vale by 55 points… Go the Hawks
About our 50th Celebrations!
We were just getting started as everyone donned their finest and headed to the Duke Of Wellington Hotel to celebrate the Hawks’ 50th Anniversary in magnificent style. With guest MC, former ABC Broadcaster Gerry Collins doing a fantastic job we announced our Team of the 50 Years, heard from Isaac Heeney, honoured our Life Members, and conducted a couple of massive auctions and raffles which put a smile on the treasurer’s face. With over 150 past and present players, coaches, and supporters celebrating together till late it was certainly a night to remember.
A big feature of the night was the announcement of the “Team of the 50 Years” and the presentation of an original artwork for auction to celebrate the wonderful Hawks who were selected in this team. We offer our congratulations to all those wonderful Hawks from across the decades that were named in the team. In some spirited bidding for the magnificent artwork the Williams kids certainly made their old man (sorry Danny) a very happy Hawk. That original artwork is going to look amazing above the bar Danny 😉
I am sure that in the very near future reproduction prints of this historic scene at our spiritual home of Maneela Park will be made available for purchase. Stay tuned all Hawks fans for more news shortly on these prints as we negotiate the release.

In other auction news, our great supporter, past player, and Dominos owner Adam Fairleigh once again has added to his trophy and sports room with a signed footy from the Swans; and Kel Daniel from RAMS Home Loans picking up the signed and framed Isaac Heeney poster. Well done folks and thanks for your support of the club.
Our raffles went off with Mark Steele winning 1st prize of a Royal Caribbean cruise kindly donated by our great sponsors at iTravel; Jessica Day winning 2ndprize of an $850 Milwaukee Tool package from Rutherford Reece Civil, and 3rd prize to Tom Hargreave with a Pamper package from The Duchess of Regent. We thanks our sponsors and supporters for their wonderful support and congratulate our winners.
It was certainly a great night at The Duke. To quote one Hawks legend … “It was an honour to be named in the side, but the best thing about the night was catching up with a bunch of legends”. I think that sums up the Hawk Family spirit as it was a consistent theme across the night and spoken of by many of the people interviewed such a John Reinhardt, Adam Clarke, Mick Ryan, Alf McKinnon, and so many more.
What’s on for this weekend?
Our attentions now turn back to footy with important games for all senior teams this Saturday at home against Nelson Bay. Our Ressies will be looking to secure top of table (and weeks break), and First Grade to keep their top two (double chance) leading into finals. Our fabulous Lady Hawks will also be looking to finish the season with a win on home turf.
Don’t forget – it is Ladies Day at Hillsborough this Saturday 5th August so head on down to help celebrate all the fabulous women in and around our great club.
