About Us – A Brief History

The Cardiff Australian Football Club was established in 1967 and we entered a team into the Newcastle Australian Football League Reserve Grade competition for the 1968 season.

In the Hawks first season we finished runners up in the major premiership, losing the grand final by one point.
The Hawks are one of the most successful clubs in the Black Diamond AFL competition and have won:

  •  8 x First Grade Premierships
  • 7x Reserve grade premierships
  • 13 x Under 18 Premierships

Hawks Membership – at a glance

The Cardiff Australian Football Club prides itself on being an inclusive and family friendly club.  Our club values are built around Teamwork, Respect, Accountability and Fun.

Our constitution was refreshed in 2016 and below you will find some “dot point” rules to help guide you. The full constitution is available on the CAFC website.

  • Members of the Cardiff Australian Football Club’s men’s and women’s teams are actively involved in the running of the club – all club activities cater to both males and females.
  • The Cardiff Australian Football Club is committed to being a leader in our community and to the development of players that not only excel at AFL on the field however are good citizens off the field as well.
  • The Cardiff Australian Football Club adheres to a strict code of conduct – we understand the need to be good ambassadors for both our club and our corporate and community supporters.
  • Membership Categories are Player Members, Associate Members and Life Members.
  • Member subscriptions (fees) are determined by the club committee before 31st January each year.
  • The Membership year runs from 1st March to the last day of February the following year. Life members are exempt from paying membership fees.
  • Cessation of membership – a person ceases to be a member of the club if the person dies, resigns their membership, is expelled from the club or fails to pay their annual subscription fee.
  • Membership entitlements not transferable – your membership rights are yours, they cannot be transferred or given to another person.
  • Register of members  – our secretary will maintain a members register that includes your name, your telephone, postal / residential and electronic address, the date you became a member and your membership category.
  • Our Annual General Meeting is usually held in October each year.
