Gibbo has completed his 24th preseason for the Hawks and on Saturday will run out for the milestone achievement of his 300th senior game. Gibbo now joins the group of only five other Hawks who have surpassed the triple century mark.
Gibson joined the Hawks back in 1995 when then-school friend Shane Williams enticed him to give the game a go. From the early stages in Gibbo’s career, it was evident he would be a strong senior player for the club. During trainings, teammates would watch Gibbo streak ahead in the long distance time trials, compete in every training drill to the point he would sometimes hurt his teammate by hitting so hard. Current Vice President and former teammate Quinton Davis said: “Gibbo has pretty much-achieved everything possible within the Cardiff Footy Club and in the Black Diamond League and should be extremely proud”. Gibbo was a pivotal part of Hawks premiership teams of 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006.
He has been a club Best & Fairest, made the Hawks team of 50 years, Club Life Member and played and captained Black Diamond representative sides for over a decade.
When Gibbo was asked why he continues to compete at the highest level for the club he said “It’s simply the love of being a part of the club, the new ground and facilities make for an extremely exciting time after such a long wait and he couldn’t possibly finish before this season.
Cardiff AFC would like to not only congratulate Gibbo but thank him for the service he has provided the club. A great contributor both on and off-field to our club. We wish him the best of luck Saturday and for season 2019.
Well done Gibbo!!!
