With the Rep weekend on at Pasterfield, the Reserve grade boys were the only team representing the Hawkies, returning to the old stomping ground at Bill Elliot Oval, to take on cellar dwellers West Wallsend. With the sun beaming down and a total of 11 personnel changes from the previous week, meant the boys had to ensure their constructional talk and work ethic to support their teammates had to be the cornerstone of the win.
The boys got off to a flier with a four goal to none first quarter. With regular key forwards Steamer and Wiv out meant a reshuffle in the forward line. With that came an explosive three-goal effort from Matt Kenny who provided structure and a lead-up target going forward. And then second continued in a similar fashion with Chop getting amongst the goal kickers as well.
A slow start in the third, with three quick goals to Wallsend, got them off the mark and the boys responded in kind with great on-field leadership and some crucial one on one wins, highlighted by Maxi Kozlik and Jake Lewis who are both in rare form.
The Hawks closed out the game kicking the next four goals to run away with the game and march towards a 53 point win.
Skipper, Peter Bleus was a standout at full back, while returning player Zac Moore got plenty of the footy through the middle of the ground, with Spoory and Tommy Williams as well.
The boys will carry this good form into next week for a blockbuster match up with City and Chop’s 100th.
