The Cardiff Hawks launched our 2018 season at The Duke Hotel on Saturday night.
The event was testament to the great strides that we have made in recent seasons in reconnecting with our past and forging our future with over 140 past and present players, sponsors and supporters in attendance. It was a sight that you would have considered almost impossible only a few years ago but today we expect nothing less.
The proceedings were hosted by long time clubman Warren Lovell which was a nice touch given Warren knew all of the 17 new Life Members who were inducted on the night.
Club President Quinton Davis welcomed the 2018 Committee, Coaches and Club Sponsors and presented the Club Goals for 2018. Quinton spoke about the need for a ‘whole of club’ approach to 2018 and reinforced that everyone in the room has a role to play in seeing the club realise its goals and aspirations for the coming season.
The club rolled out its “Cardifference” Player Welfare Program that is being facilitated by Nick Tomlinson. This innovative program is built around us being a club that is inclusive, supportive and true to the values of respect, empowerment, resilience and family. The program provides communication channels for players who need to engage in those confidential, supportive and non-judgmental conversations that we all need from time to time. “More Talk = More Hawk”. The Cardiff Australian Football Club is more than just a footy club.
A multimedia presentation also featured Hawks Junior and now AFL star Isaac Heeney who wished his “home” club the best of luck for 2018 via a specially recorded Swans TV video message and also saw video tributes from players who gained a Player Sponsorship from local businesses under the “Support A Hawk” Player Sponsorship Program.
The night closed with Coaches Nathan Harkness, Tom Yensch, Paul Cooksley and Pete Youman giving an insight into how the playing groups were shaping up ahead of the round 1 blockbuster against traditional rivals Newcastle City.
All up it was an amazing night for the club and demonstrated that the momentum we have gained is real as we approach the new season with confidence and optimism.
